Ferguson approves modest residential refuse and recycling rate increases effective April 1

Ferguson Township supervisors adopted an amendment to the township’s 2026 fee schedule March 17 to update residential refuse and recycling rates under the Center Region Council of Governments contract with Bird Mears Hauling.
Staff explained the contract’s annual adjustment is calculated from disposal costs at the county authority, fuel costs, and the Consumer Price Index (CPI), with an overall cap of 5% for the year. This year’s adjustments vary by container size and service options and increase rates between 0.6% and 2.54%.
“To put it simply,” a board member summarized, “it’s essentially a 10 cent to a 79 cent increase per month depending on what trash can size you picked.” The board adopted the resolution by roll‑call vote (4–0).
The new rates take effect April 1, 2026 and will remain in force through March 31, 2027 as provided in the contract and fee schedule.
