At the March 24 meeting the Tiburon Town Heritage & Arts Commission reviewed gallery programming and flagged outreach and scheduling challenges, and discussed an early‑stage proposal for an August community event.
Gallery operations: Staff and commissioners confirmed an upper‑gallery reception on May 5 and a lower‑gallery opening on April 14, discussed artist submissions for September–December slots and the logistics of banners, hanging and walkthroughs for artists. Commissioners noted a vacancy for November–December and that Marissa (staff) will circulate artist links, mockups and space measurements. A Reed Union Schools representative requested moving an October–November student show to a later slot; commissioners discussed hanger availability and potential calendar swaps.
Marketing and outreach: Commissioners and staff reviewed current tools — the town uses Constant Contact for the Tiburon Town newsletter — and discussed whether the commission can use the town account or should create its own contact‑list capability. Commissioners recommended producing clear promotion templates for artists, considering a modest budget line for marketing, and recruiting a student or intern to manage social media and regular mailings. The commission asked Vice Chair Fibush and Chair Gupta to meet and return with draft options for email lists, templates and a proposed budget line.
Community event (Summer of Love): Commissioner Nogz presented initial ideas to revive a community gathering modeled on historical 'Ayala Day' (family activities, historical presentations tied to Angel Island/Ayala Cove, cultural performers and a late‑afternoon music program). Commissioners emphasized that the idea needs a focused written proposal with scope, performers, estimated budget and identified partners (e.g., Chamber, Diversity & Inclusion Task Force) before a date is locked. An ad hoc meeting among three commissioners was scheduled to develop a draft.
Why it matters: clearer outreach tools and a modest marketing budget could materially increase attendance at gallery receptions and town events; a written proposal will determine whether Heritage & Arts should lead a large community festival or support partners in doing so.
Next steps: staff will circulate links and floor plans to commissioners; Vice Chair Fibush and Chair Gupta will meet on marketing options and report back; an ad hoc will convene to produce a formal proposal for the community event and an estimated budget before the commission considers committing funds.
