Sunbury โ The City Council unanimously approved a partial street-closure request for the Sunbury Marathon, scheduled for Sept. 12, 2026, after hearing from applicant John Pratt and city staff about the route and coordination with emergency services.
John Pratt, the event applicant, described the race starting at JR Smith Park, traveling across multiple jurisdictions and returning to finish at the square. City Manager Hennessey said the partial closures will focus on Cherry and Walnut Streets and the trail, and that the applicant has coordinated with emergency services and prepared a medical-emergency plan.
Council approved the partial closure by roll call (7-0) and asked that the applicant continue coordinating with emergency responders and city staff. The council noted the closure window for operations would roughly be 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., while not all streets would be closed for the entire period.
Next steps: Applicant to finalize emergency and medical plans with EMS and work with city staff on operational details and signage prior to the event.
