Board accepts FY2025 audit; auditors issue clean opinion with several findings

The Bettendorf Community School District board accepted the district's fiscal year 2025 external audit after a presentation by finance staff and the auditors.
Tyler, the district's audit presenter, summarized the external audit for the period July 1, 2024 through June 30, 2025 and explained key terms, telling the board the auditors issued an unmodified (clean) opinion on the financial statements. "An unmodified opinion means everything looked good," Tyler said, describing the audit outcome.
The auditors also identified one instance of non-compliance and three significant deficiencies in government auditing standards testing; staff said these findings are largely tied to division of duties and are first-time issues that emerged after the district switched to a new audit firm. The presentation noted a recording change under GASB 101 related to compensated absences.
Board members asked questions about the nature of the findings and implementation of corrective steps. Finance staff and the superintendent said steps are already underway to strengthen controls and address the recommendations.
A motion to approve the FY2025 audit as presented passed on roll call 7-0.
The board received the audit book for review and staff said the full auditor's report (including a findings section) is available for board review and public inspection in the audit packet.
