MANSFIELD, La. — The DeSoto Parish Police Jury took a slate of routine and substantive actions March 16, approving meeting minutes and financial reports, handling personnel and procurement items, and passing several resolutions and ordinances.

The jury accepted the resignation of Kenny Sanchez from Fire District No. 2 and, after nominations and discussion, appointed Lane Steedman to fill the remainder of the term.
Procurement and budget votes included awarding the LCDBG construction contract for the Bird Street project (Resolution No. 8 of 2026), authorizing purchase of property for parish compactor sites (Resolution No. 9 of 2026), adopting Ordinance Nos. 6–8 of 2026 concerning drainage regulations, authorizing placement of an electronic sign at Independence and Highway 171, amending the general fund capital budget by $165,000 to accept a low bid of $515,000 for a new outdoor central plant annex, and amending the solid waste budget by $58,000 and authorizing a contract with Smash Your Trash (trial at three sites).
Policy changes included amending Policy 603 to provide additional compensation to non-exempt employees during declared inclement weather events. The jury also voted to eliminate the fuel surcharge at the Monday landfill (members discussed competitive impacts and will monitor results).
Next steps: Items requiring follow-up include implementation details for awarded contracts, documentation for debris-reimbursement submissions, and the deferred maker space item, which will return to the agenda after additional review.
