Fourth‑grade Regal Seaglitz team showcases robotics work at school committee meeting

North Falmouth’s fourth‑grade Regal Seaglitz robotics team presented to the Falmouth School Committee on March 24, describing the team’s innovation project and competition experience.
Principal Rebecca Vieira introduced the team and explained the presentation was part of a two‑part showcase. Students explained their innovation project (designing a bioluminescent diving suit to help underwater archaeologists see without flashlights), reported that the team placed second in the animation category at a regional competition, and demonstrated how missions are scored across 13 missions in 2½‑minute rounds. Students said they practiced before and after school and credited a high‑school mentor for technical guidance.
Committee members and attendees asked the students how they joined the team (students said Mr. Irving distributed flyers and teammates volunteered), who designed team shirts (students and an art teacher, Miss Emerson), and what the favorite parts of the competition were. The committee praised students’ patience, collaboration and communications skills.
What’s next: Principal Vieira said the district hopes to grow the robotics program across more elementary schools and maintain high‑school mentoring links.
