Morrison County awards $8.29M paving contract and approves striping and LRIP funds

Morrison County commissioners on March 10 authorized multiple public-works contracts that sum to several million dollars in construction and maintenance work across the county.
County Engineer Tony Henning recommended awarding Contract 322 (a bundle of SAP and county road projects) to Anderson Brothers of Brainerd, Minnesota, based on a low responsive bid of $8,291,421.63, roughly 14% under the engineering estimate. Henning said six bidders participated and that the favorable results create capacity to add other culvert and related projects to this season’s program.
"I'm requesting the board to authorize resolution to award contract 322 to Anderson Brothers in the amount of $8,291,421.63," Henning said. The board approved the award by roll call; all commissioners voted in the affirmative.
Henning also said the county was awarded approximately $1.5 million in Local Road Improvement Program funds tied to one of the contract segments; the board authorized acceptance of those funds and an agreement with MnDOT.
Separately the board awarded contract 2601 (annual maintenance striping) to Sir Lines LLC for $153,166.36, about 24% under estimate. Henning said favorable fuel prices and increased contractor competition contributed to lower-than-expected bids.
All contract awards were approved by roll call; commissioners commended engineering staff for competitive bidding and the ability to expand work due to lower bids.
