Amy, land services staff, presented the request under ordinance 608.8 and displayed aerial maps showing a wide right‑of‑way for the location. She said MDOT was notified and a field staking of the right‑of‑way was completed; MDOT did not provide a written objection and the proposed addition would remain outside state right‑of‑way. Applicant Luke Hoskins of LHH Properties said the entryway is a walkthrough aimed at reducing cold air infiltration and keeping smoke from entering the building: "it's a walkthrough ... to save on energy costs and to get people out the doorways and smoking and the air is not coming in and out of the bar."
Board members noted the corner lot has an unusually wide right‑of‑way and that the small addition would not materially alter the character of the crossroads retail environment. Green Prairie township supervisor Wayne Stoner spoke in support during public comment. The board voted to approve the variance; Chair reminded the applicant to contact Land Services for required permits before construction.
