Portsmouth council schedules discussion on an auditor position for April work session

Councilwoman Yolanda Thomas asked colleagues to bring back a conversation about creating an auditor position during the city's budget cycle and proposed placing that discussion on the April 13 work session agenda.
"What I'm going to propose, if I can get a consensus amongst my council members, is for our April 13th work session to bring that conversation back to light," Councilwoman Thomas said, describing the auditor position as tied to the city's budget cycle and an appropriate time to revisit the job description and organizational placement.
The Mayor replied that a formal consensus was not necessary and the council would bring the discussion back at the work session: "We don't need a consensus for that. We'll bring the discussion back," the Mayor said.
No motion or vote was recorded on creating the auditor position during the meeting; the item was characterized as a request to schedule discussion at a future work session. City staff and council will need to prepare job descriptions, budget implications and any supporting materials before the April 13 session.
