Board approves Read to Achieve summer camp, district calendars and dozens of field trips

The meeting also included approval of many field-trip requests, ranging from in-state elementary visits to out-of-state overnight trips. Approved requests included Beta Club travel, kindergarten farm visits, Medieval Times field trips to Myrtle Beach, an Alligator Adventure trip and an overnight choir and piano performance in New York City. Dates and destinations were presented to the board and approved by voice vote.
Why it matters: Read to Achieve is a legislatively mandated program; consolidating sites is intended to preserve resources while maintaining access for eligible students. Calendar approvals set the instructional schedule for the coming school year; field trip approvals authorize student travel and overnight logistics.
