Board to consider MOU allowing 12th-grade credit recovery via Hornet Virtual Academy

Superintendent Dr. Woods told the board work session the district plans to present a memorandum of understanding that temporarily modifies Article 24.2 of the teacher contract to allow distance-learning credit recovery for 12th-grade students through Hornet Virtual Academy (HVA).
Dr. Woods said the arrangement is intended as a stopgap until the next round of contract negotiations so that eligible seniors may recover credits and meet graduation requirements; the program was offered last summer and is planned as a summer credit-recovery option this year as well. "This is credit recovery for our 12th graders stating that through HVA... we will be able to provide credit recovery for our 12th grade students," Dr. Woods said.
The administration expects to submit the MOU for board approval at the regular March meeting. Board members asked clarifying questions about program timing and eligibility; Dr. Woods confirmed it is a summer program focused on 12th-grade credit recovery and that this is the program’s second year.
Next steps: the MOU text will be distributed to board members prior to the regular meeting and a vote will be scheduled at the March board meeting.
