On policy 5150 (attendance), staff pointed to administrative changes made to align the procedures with recent changes to school code and asked the committee for final clarifying questions before moving the policy forward for board consideration.
Discussion on policy 5320 focused on how the district defines course levels — college prep, academic and unlevelled — and the mechanics of how weighted courses affect GPA and class rank. Committee members asked for clearer language to explain those terms in administrative procedures. The committee also agreed to add Allied Health and Teacher Academy to the list of AP-level/weighted courses so those pathways receive AP-level weighting in GPA calculations.
Other policies in the 5000 series were reviewed in sequence with staff framing the intent and administrative procedures: policy 5330 (early graduation) needed a minor wording correction in item C to clarify a student’s participation in commencement; policy 5340 (graduation requirements), policy 5350 (student records, including FERPA protections), policy 5360 (special-education evaluation requests), policy 5370 (supplemental discipline records), policy 5375 (behavior supports emphasizing least-restrictive environments) and policy 5380 (student rights surveys) were discussed with no board-level objections recorded.
On transportation policy 5400 (bus conduct), members asked whether buses require seat belts; staff reported no current buses have seat belts and that no state legislative requirement exists, noting the existing bus contract did not require belts. Staff said the board could consider the issue in future procurement or contract specifications.
Outcome: the committee resolved wording clarifications and minor additions to administrative procedures and will carry recommendations forward to the full board as appropriate. No policy was rejected or substantively changed at this meeting.
