Council tables Juni Rio Park enhancement plan while staff prepares costs and site plan

Councilwoman Weekes asked the Cocoa City Council on March 24 to authorize enhancements to Juni Rio Park, including additional grills, outdoor exercise equipment along the walking path, rubber-mulch surfacing and (possibly) a new pavilion.
"One was installation of shade over the playground area, additional outdoor exercise equipment along the walking path..." Weekes said, listing items residents requested during a town hall. She provided preliminary vendor pricing for several items and said available budgeted funds exist for park improvements but that staff procurement and siting details remain to be finalized.
Council members discussed maintenance trade-offs (noting tree canopy and leaf debris affecting shade structures), procurement and previously approved items that may overlap with the current request. Council member Hearn and others asked staff to return with an itemized cost breakdown and a site plan showing placement options. City Manager Whitten and staff cautioned that some items previously approved could already be in design or procurement and that withdrawing previously approved work could incur costs.
With the expectation that staff would reconcile previously approved improvements and provide cost and siting details, Councilwoman Weekes moved to table the request and Deputy Mayor Goins seconded. The motion to table passed unanimously.
Council directed staff to (1) compile the list of previously approved park work, (2) provide a current cost estimate and procurement schedule for the new items proposed by Weekes, and (3) return to the council at a budget workshop or future meeting with a recommended plan.
The council did not authorize immediate purchases or installations at the March 24 meeting.
