Students highlight district experiences as Penfield celebrates state titles and awards

Juliana (recorded) said performing in orchestra "gives me the chance to share something I work so hard on and be a part of something bigger than myself," and described a Girl Scouts project on eating‑disorder awareness she hopes to develop into a high‑school workshop.
Aiden, a senior, said the district’s flexibility helped him pursue rigorous coursework: "This is going to be my favorite presentation of the year because I get to talk all about myself," he told the board, describing a path that included multiple AP courses and college‑level acceleration. Other student representatives—Leam Ma and Laya—described club leadership, arts and athletic opportunities and urged the district to promote extracurriculars more broadly through social media and intramural options.
The board recognized district honors: Penfield earned a school safety excellence award from UDICIA National Insurance Group; the boys basketball team captured the school’s first New York State championship (Class AA, 62–54); and Penfield’s Rolling Thunder robotics team earned regional awards and will compete at the World Championship in Houston. The board also noted placements by Bay Trail students in the American Mathematics Competition and DECA state finalists from Penfield High School.
Administrators encouraged families to attend a community partnership fair on April 16 (5:30–7:30 p.m.) intended to connect students and families with local career and mentoring partners.
