The Farmers Branch Parks & Recreation Board voted to form a Bird City subcommittee to pursue items raised at a prior meeting and to coordinate community outreach. Board members discussed membership limits for board subcommittees and whether non-board residents could be invited to participate.
Staff explained that subcommittees may include non-board community members and that subcommittee meetings do not always require the same formal posting rules as full-board meetings. The staff presenter noted the board can form a parks-and-rec subcommittee and invite members of the sustainability group and other partners to attend meetings.
Board members referenced two community presenters from the prior meeting — Chloe Crumbley and Karen Carpenter of the Ottabon Dallas chapter — as possible participants. Karen Carpenter was specifically mentioned as someone who could share resources and outreach connections with the subcommittee.
A motion to form the subcommittee passed by voice vote. Several board members volunteered to serve; staff said they will collect contact information after the meeting and schedule subcommittee meetings. The board agreed to include a standing subcommittee update on future agendas so members can report back to the full board.
