Mount Holly’s City Council honored personnel changes in the fire department during the March 9 meeting.
The fire chief introduced and swore in firefighter Luke Jeffries, who previously served three years with the Dallas Fire Department and has family ties to the fire service. Jeffries was welcomed to the Mount Holly Fire Department and received a pin from his father, who is a full-time fire captain with the Charlotte Fire Department.
The council also called forward Division Chief Kevin Baker for swearing. The chief noted Baker’s earlier service with Bessemer City Fire Department and Union Road Fire Department and his promotion from training officer to division chief. The chief credited Baker with overseeing training that produced 11,556 hours last year—about 3,000 hours more than the prior year—which the chief attributed to Baker’s leadership in department training efforts.
Council members and the mayor congratulated the new firefighter and the promoted division chief. No formal council vote was required for the swearing ceremonies; the council participated in the ceremony and invited family and staff to join for photos.
