Recreation staff said they are partnering with a local swim club and neighborhood groups to stage the joint event; a recreation committee meeting is scheduled for April 7 to continue planning. Council members noted both observances fall in the same week — Flag Day on June 14 and Juneteenth later — and endorsed combining events to make the most of volunteer and financial resources.
Officials said the borough will recruit volunteers, seek local business contributions and use existing venues (the area near Longaker Boulevard and Community Park) for a full day of activities. Councilors emphasized the event is intended for the whole community, not a single group, and noted the borough’s long history of Flag Day observance.
Organizers will return to council with details on programming and logistics as planning proceeds.
