Mayor announced the item and staff member Jason explained that, if the council approved the assessment, the city would bring a resolution ordering plans and specs to be developed and place the documents on the next council agenda. Councilor Kaylor stated he would abstain, disclosing that his sister and brother-in-law rent from one of the parties involved; the abstention was recorded for the record. The remainder of the council voted to approve the assessment and to move forward with the engineering work.
The decision follows the public hearing (held at 5:00 p.m.) in which property owners petitioned for the improvement. No formal dollar amount for the assessment was read into the record during the meeting; staff said plans and specifications will be prepared and returned to council for further action. The vote authorizes the city to proceed to the next steps in the assessment process.
