District clears 13 acres and advances athletic complex design; land‑work filing to be submitted before building permits

Mr. DeRosa updated the board on the Interscholastic Athletic Complex at the March 25 meeting, saying the district has moved from schematic design into design‑development and completed initial site clearing.
Mr. DeRosa said the district awarded a contract to Peter Downs and Sons for tree felling; the contractor cleared 13 acres in five days and the district installed an 8‑foot perimeter fence at the elementary‑school side of the site. He described the schematic design (SD) as complete and said design development is about 75% finished, which will flesh out room sizes, sidewalks, lighting, turf and sound systems.
Because groundwork (stump removal, grading) must precede foundations, the district decided to split the SED (State Education Department) filing: the land‑work will be filed first, with a possible submission as soon as April; remaining filings (buildings, utilities, tracks) will follow. Mr. DeRosa said the filing order is critical to keep the project on schedule and to avoid winter‑delay risks to foundation work.
He also reported the district is close to selecting a construction manager and expects to introduce that firm at a subsequent board meeting. Mr. DeRosa said community meetings will be scheduled as the project advances and that updated drawings and schedules are posted on the district Interscholastic Athletic Complex web page.
No formal vote was taken on the project during the meeting; Mr. DeRosa encouraged residents with questions to consult the project page or contact the district.
