The commission voted to authorize up to 50 day passes to the Leitchfield Aquatic Center to be distributed "at Trent's discretion" for nonprofits and school organizations, with Trent to report back monthly on recipients, the chair said. "I'm recommending that we make a motion to approve up to 50 at Trent's discretion," the chair said during the old-business discussion.
Commissioners also approved a $500 grant request for the inaugural Trail Town 5K, scheduled for May 2. The motion passed with one recorded abstention by Anthony, who said he was "connected." Commissioners noted that future applicants should submit requests within the regular grant cycle.
On finance matters, the commission accepted the presented financial reports and a commissioner asked that staff provide a permanent printed copy of the general ledger or chart-of-accounts pages for easier review. The chair announced that the audit process is complete and that work on the 2026–27 budget has begun; she said she and Elsa will meet to draft recommendations and that a small budget committee of returning members will continue that work.
The commission also reported progress on a planned public mural project. Members said they met with the artist to discuss two potential mural locations — the Hayes building and a property at 259 South — and are awaiting sketches for approval by the commission, the mayor and the building owner. Commissioners said they expect sketches before the next meeting or will consider an alternate artist.
The commission encouraged local organizations to apply for grants during the open cycle, which will run through the end of April. The meeting concluded with a motion to adjourn.
The commission did not record any formal ordinances or policy changes; the actions taken were approvals of minutes and financials, authorization of a pass distribution process, and a $500 event grant.
