School business staff presented draft resolutions of intent to change permissive levies (non-voted tax levies) for the elementary and high school districts and reminded the board that state law requires public notice and estimates be published by March 31.
Administration explained these are estimates only and that final levy numbers depend on the fiscal-year close and tax valuation data the state provides in August. The board reviewed the draft language and the transparency purpose behind the statutory phrasing (the term often reads as 'intent to increase' though estimates can include decreases or no change).
Trustee Ken moved and Trustee Craig seconded the elementary resolution; the motion passed by voice vote. The board separately approved the high school permissive levy resolution with a unanimous voice vote. Administration and business staff will publish the notices and update the board during formal budget adoption later in the summer when final valuations are available.
The board emphasized that publishing estimates does not constitute budget adoption; the formal budget and levies will be set during the district’s August budget adoption process.
