Board reviews committee agendas and budget items including $3 million special-education estimate

The William Penn SD board spent the meeting hearing committee reports and reviewing upcoming budget and grant items.
Committee chairs read their agendas: community relations highlighted kindergarten registration closing March 31, 2026, and teaching award recognitions; the education chair outlined field-trip and discipline-related items; the personnel report listed assignments, leaves and tenure and salary-track items; and the property committee introduced DCE grant resolutions for Penwood High School HVAC and electrical upgrades, Walnut Street HVAC and roofing, and a districtwide access-controls project.
During the budget and finance committee overview, the board heard that the Delaware County Intermediate Unit’s general operating budget for 2026–2027 was cited (the reading referenced $33,000) and that the Intermediate Unit’s special-education services were presented with an estimated cost of about $3 million. The budget and finance reading also referenced the Delaware County Technical High School budget and said a William Penn district share would be charged; the transcript reading of the district share amount was unclear. Budget chair Miss Hoff asked that future materials specify how many students are covered by those budget lines so directors can better evaluate per-student impact.
Board members asked that resolutions and related documents be provided with board reports so directors can review them before votes. Mr. Deans said the resolutions will be included in the upcoming board report. Miss Hoff reminded directors that the budget advisory committee will meet virtually on March 26 at 6:30 p.m. and encouraged participation.
No formal votes were recorded on the budgets or grant resolutions during the meeting; items were presented for review and will return for formal action at a later meeting. The board closed the public-comment period with no speakers and adjourned.
