Board approves grouped retainage payments, Apple device purchases and a TCAT MOU

During its regular meeting, the Sumner County School Board approved several procurement and facilities motions by voice vote, including grouped release of retainage for Portland High School stadium work, updated Apple device purchases for classroom technology, and a memorandum of understanding with TCAT Nashville.

The board voted to group retainage items for the Portland High School football stadium project and approved the grouped motion. The chair called for the vote and members voiced "I" for approval; no roll-call tallies were recorded in the meeting transcript.

On classroom technology, Dr. Langford explained the district revised an earlier lease after Apple released a newer MacBook model at a lower price. "We're saving around $186,000 by shifting devices and we're getting a better device," he said. The board approved the change and later approved an updated iPad lease agreement; officials said the iPad orders themselves did not change substantively.

The board also approved a memorandum of understanding with TCAT Nashville for use and redevelopment of the former Portland Industrial Arts property. Under the MOU, TCAT plans to build a new middle college space and a one-to-one clinic; in exchange the district will grant TCAT limited use (not ownership) of a small adjacent piece of land and TCAT will correct a traffic issue described as a "dog leg" near the parking area.
