Coatesville Area School District board adopts comprehensive plan, revises calendars and OKs contracts for Chromebooks, fiber and facilities

The board voted to adopt the district’s comprehensive plan goals and action steps, which the administration will forward to the Pennsylvania Department of Education. Board members who participated in the discussion praised the planning process but asked for clear accountability measures tied to the plan’s equity goals, with one director pressing the difference between increasing access and ensuring equity in outcomes.
The board also approved revisions to the academic calendars: the 2025–26 calendar was corrected to remove an extra teacher day (May 19 will now be a student day off while maintaining planned half days on April 15 and May 20), and the 2026–27 calendar was adjusted to restore a missed observance (March 23 as a full day for staff and students and March 24 as a half day for conferences).
On operations and finance, directors approved several contracts and purchases:
- A three‑year lease with Hewlett Packard Financial Services, procured through Riverside Technologies, for 1,500 Chromebooks for student use at a total cost presented as $567,678; legal review of the master services agreement was completed before the vote.
- A five‑year proposal from Chesconet for 6 Gbps fiber‑optic connectivity and internet service at $40,000 per year, subject to E‑rate approval.
- An agreement with ICS Consulting LLC to replace the senior high school loading dock and ramp for $119,860; the contract also permits ICS to complete future projects via individual work orders that would still come before the board.
- A proposal from PVBJ Inc. for installation of a chilled water valve in the senior high auditorium for $11,787.25.
- A proposal from Innovages to provide facilitated board‑retreat services for $3,421.62; the superintendent described Innovages’ owner Joanna Hightower as a Coatesville graduate with extensive governance experience.
Board members said several pulled consent items had been held so staff could provide additional details after committee review, including a ShotSpotter (Sound Thinking) agreement and an FC Delco agreement that remained under legal review.
The board approved the district’s financial statements and payables list and accepted a human resources report listing resignations, appointments, new positions, leaves of absence and retirements; members noted plans to recognize long‑service retirees at the end of the school year.
The meeting concluded with brief informational updates and scheduling: committee meetings are set for April 14 and the next regular board meeting for April 28 in the learning center.
