Macedonia council adopts truck purchase, road contracts and pay change; sells old camera systems and accepts donations

Ordinance 18-2026 was offered and adopted to authorize purchase of a Ram 4500 multi-use truck from Valley Truck Centers through a cooperative purchasing program for use by the service department. Director Wilson said a 2½-ton plow truck recently required repairs exceeding $30,000 and staff, together with the finance director, decided purchase of a gasoline-powered Ram 4500 (quoted in discussion as "right at 119,000") was the better use of funds to avoid recurring diesel emissions-related failures.
The council also approved Ordinance 19-2026 directing the mayor to enter an agreement with Ryan Act Pavement Inc. for resurfacing Shephard Road and Ordinance 20-2026 awarding the 2026 road program to Ron Yak Paving Inc. Staff noted the engineer's estimate for the Shephard Road segment was cited at $1.4 million and that the winning bid was discussed in the meeting as "8.24" (figure stated in the transcript). Council members described the dual contract arrangement as producing savings compared with initial estimates.
Resolution 21-2026 authorized disposition of WatchGuard in-car camera systems that had reached their end of life after being replaced by new Axon cameras; Lieutenant Costello said the department removed the units from the fleet to try to resell them and recoup funds.
Ordinance 23-2026, modifying the non-union pay schedule, changed the mayor's magistrate compensation from an hourly rate to a per-court payment; Director Gdetti said the position had not been increased in about four years. Ordinance 22-2026 (insurance renewal with Ohio Plan Risk Management Inc., effective April 1, 2026) was offered for first reading and staff said further formal action would be taken at a subsequent meeting.
The council accepted two donations: $100 from Michael Carneahan for the senior center meal program and $1,500 from Plastic Process Equipment, Inc. for the fire department fund.
