Meriwether County commissioners approved adding $150,000 to the courthouse renovation contingency fund March 24 and subsequently approved two contractor change orders.
Staff reported an accounting error left the contingency fund negative after earlier change orders were taken off the guaranteed price instead of the contingency. Project oversight staff outlined pending and estimated change orders — including replacing caulking around exterior windows and replacing damaged bricks — and recommended restoring contingency to avoid markup and overhead charges on change orders.
The board approved a $150,000 contingency addition, which staff said would eliminate overhead/profit markups on the listed change orders. With the added contingency, commissioners approved courthouse change order #8 to remove and replace exterior window caulking across all elevations for $13,750 (no markup) and change order #11 to replace damaged bricks on the north and west elevations for $2,184.
Staff noted additional estimated change orders (masonry and structural items) and said they would bring final engineer costs and remaining estimates as the work progresses. The project manager said estimates were intentionally conservative to provide cushion in contingency planning.
