Urbana recognizes three fire department personnel at council meeting

At the March 23 Urbana City Council meeting the city recognized promotions and a successful probation completion within the Urbana Fire Department.
The council and assembled community joined to honor Jacob (Jake) Hutchcraft, who was promoted to captain and described as a technical‑rescue team member, hazardous‑materials technician and EMT‑Advanced; his wife Megan performed the badge‑pinning and he recited the oath of office. Blake Coons was also promoted to captain; staff highlighted his role as a paramedic, fire investigator, technical‑rescue team member and his service as president of IAFF Local 1147. Blake’s wife Jamie pinned his badge. Kelly Riono was recognized for successfully completing probation as a firefighter; the presentation noted her time at the University of Illinois and that she is progressing through EMT‑Advanced training; her sister Megan assisted with the badge fitting.
No council action was required for the recognitions. Speakers emphasized tradition, leadership development and community support for the fire department.
