Elizabeth Bourne Naido, presenting for Rendevu Detroit, said the group is a French-Canadian cultural organization that stages events across Michigan and intends to run a raffle to support the Catholic Initiative and mission work. She said the contact officer who filed incorporation lives in Rochester Hills and the raffle drawing will take place during a summer event; tickets will be sold statewide and potentially out of state.
Vice President Mioli and other council members asked for clarity because the application listed the Basilica of St. Anne as a beneficiary in paperwork; Naido explained the Catholic Initiative and the basilica are linked through a long-term lease arrangement and that raffle proceeds would support mission work which could include projects in Detroit or elsewhere. Clerk Scott confirmed the city recognition allows up to three gaming activities per year for five years and that the state issues the license.
Council approved recognition and asked Rendevu Detroit to supplement the written application with the clarifying presentation material so the city's file meets ordinance requirements.
