El Campo approves East Jackson waterline contract and CDC funding for infrastructure extension

The El Campo City Council on March 23 authorized construction of waterline improvements along East Jackson Street and accepted CDC funding to support an associated infrastructure extension.
By motion, the council approved Resolution R2026‑18, authorizing an engagement with Ramrod Utilities LLC for waterline work in the amount of $283,269.17 and granting the city manager authority to execute the necessary agreements. Council members confirmed the procurement followed an interlocal purchasing process.
Immediately following the contract approval, the council considered CDC funding to cover 100% of the East Jackson portion of the project. Staff said the first phase of related work—extending water service and installing fire hydrants to the city limits—totals $738,269.17; the East Jackson contract is a portion of that total. The Community Development Corporation (CDC) board had unanimously approved 100% funding for the initial phase at a prior meeting.
Council approved both the contract award and the CDC funding motion. Members thanked the CDC for funding and discussed that the improvements would support fire protection and future sidewalk grant projects.
Staff said the improvements will increase water redundancy, fire control capacity and support future sidewalk and streetscape work; the council directed staff to proceed under the approved contract and funding arrangement.
