The Cromwell Board of Education voted Oct. 7 to adopt the 2025–26 school calendar with adjustments intended to reduce attendance disruption around the December break.
Board members debated whether to make Dec. 22 a full day, a half day, or part of the vacation period; some members argued a full day on Dec. 22 reduces instructional loss from families pulling students early, while others noted historically high absenteeism the day before breaks. The adopted compromise keeps Dec. 22 as a full day of school, designates Dec. 23 as a half day, and sets Jan. 2 as a day off. The calendar preserves a graduation date of June 11.
A motion to approve the calendar with those adjustments was made, seconded and carried in open session.
Administrators said final scheduling decisions for graduation and other dates will be confirmed in January as usual, after accounting for potential snow days and other adjustments.
