The governing board heard a construction update on Oct. 22 that the district’s new Career and Technical Education (CTE) building is complete and the district has permits to occupy the facility, but board members asked staff to investigate visible floor cracks spotted in several utility areas.
Construction lead Jennifer said the project’s punch list is nearly closed, interior systems are being finished and the district has obtained permits. “This project is officially complete…District can occupy at any time,” she told the board while noting a few remaining intercom items and a final systems completion expected within a week.
Board members pointed to lines and cracks in sealed concrete in the men’s restroom and the fire riser room and asked whether those are superficial or require remediation. Jennifer said the floors use sealed concrete as a budget choice rather than epoxy or tile, that concrete cracking can be normal after pour, and that the team will follow up with the contractor to assess whether the cracks are structural or cosmetic.
The board asked staff to monitor the places where cracks were observed and to report back on the contractor’s assessment and any needed repairs before wider use of the spaces. The CTE building includes multipurpose classrooms that can open into a large space, a weight room, locker rooms and accessible restrooms; staff said ADA-compliant fixtures and required fire- and data-related rooms are in place.
