The Weed City Planning Commission voted to recommend that the city council adopt housing-element zoning amendments and related code changes intended to meet the Regional Housing Needs Allocation (RHNA) requirements.
Planning staff explained that the housing element is updated every eight years and that the RHNA process sets allocations communities must plan to accommodate. Staff said the proposed changes in Weed are primarily definitional and aimed at ensuring the city’s zoning code reflects state requirements; staff noted grant funding helped complete the update. "Every eight years the city's required to update its housing element to meet something called the Regional Housing Needs Allocation," staff said, adding that the city had identified sufficient land for a range of residential densities.
No members of the public spoke during the hearing. Commissioners asked procedural questions about surveys and prior analyses; staff said the RHNA assignment in this cycle was managed by the state and county and that the update followed required processes. The commission moved and seconded to forward the packet to city council for consideration.
