The Weed City Council voted to deny a request from Golden Hour Collective to close part of the north municipal parking lot for an anniversary event, citing insufficient information and concerns about resident parking and potential noise impacts.
Staff told the council the application lacked finalized insurance and signatures from nearby businesses and that the proposed partial, multi-day closure could conflict with resident parking permits and nearby housing. Staff recommended, and council accepted, that absent a complete site plan, required insurance and clearer mitigation for resident impacts, the application should be denied.
Council members said they were reluctant to approve a six-day closure of a municipal lot that is used by residents with permit parking and that the submitted site map did not clearly reflect building locations and residence proximity. One council member said the request had insufficient planning and was submitted too close to the proposed dates to allow staff and the risk pool adequate time for review.
Outcome: the motion to deny the parking-lot encroachment carried on council vote. The applicant may reapply with a complete site plan, required insurance documentation and any required business signatures if they wish to pursue a future permit.
