The Los Gatos Town Council unanimously adopted three resolutions on Dec. 16 waiving the CalPERS 180-day rehire waiting period so recently retired town staff can provide interim or extra-help services while recruitments continue.
HR Director Cheryl Parkman explained the waivers are needed because the town is recruiting for new permanent roles but requires continuity for mission-critical duties: the administrative services director position (finance/treasury/budget continuity), police IT and real-time crime-center and 911 transition support, and the town-manager executive assistant function. Parkman noted CalPERS permits a waiver in extenuating circumstances. Council members thanked each incoming interim for past service and authorized the appointments without objection.
Votes and next steps: each waiver was moved, seconded and approved unanimously; the appointments are intended to bridge personnel coverage while recruitments are completed.
Authorities and context: these are administrative personnel actions under the California Public Employees' Retirement System rules; the council’s approvals are formal recorded actions in the town minutes.
