The Parks and Recreation Commission voted to cancel its December meeting after staff said there was not enough substantive business on the agenda. A motion to cancel the December meeting was moved, seconded and approved by voice vote.
Staff reviewed community events through December and early January, including seasonal school shows at the Heritage Theater, story time and Photos with Santa, Anley House holiday tours (sold out for some sessions), an adult-center presentation of Mary Poppins Jr. on Dec. 1, and the winter/spring activity guide and registration schedule (resident registration opens Dec. 2; general registration opens Dec. 3).
Staff also told the commission that the city council approved a construction agreement for the skatepark with American Rand Company. The commission announced a ribbon-cutting for a new trailhead scheduled for Dec. 4 at 10 a.m. and asked commissioners to remain after the meeting for a group photo.
Why it matters: These items affect community programming, volunteer sign-ups and the timeline for a significant recreation facility (the skatepark). Cancelling a low‑business December meeting is a routine scheduling decision that will concentrate commission work in January.
Next steps: Staff requested RSVPs for the commissioner dinner on Dec. 1 and said more scheduling or program details will be shared in upcoming communications.
