Commission approves 2026 goals and forms three ad hoc committees

The Campbell Parks & Recreation Commission on a voice vote approved its 2026 goals and work plan and authorized up to three ad hoc committees to help implement priority work-plan items.

Recreation Services Director Natasha BL presented the draft goals and proposed three limited-duration ad hoc committees: community building to develop and run a community event; a pedestrian and bicycle safety committee to represent parks in the city’s multimodal transportation planning and outreach; and a parks/programming committee to help plan and promote Parks & Recreation Month events. Staff said committee membership may range from one to three commissioners and that the committee descriptions are intended as starting points for commissioners to define their work.

Commissioners asked staff to broaden the pedestrian and bicycle safety language to reference 'parks' generally rather than only the community center; staff confirmed that edit would be made. Commissioners also sought clarity on whether committee roles include developing the multimodal plan or primarily participating in outreach; staff said technical plan development is led by city staff and consultants, but commissioners can provide input and weigh in during outreach and public meetings.

The commission then moved and approved the work plan with the edit and voted to form the ad hoc committees. Commissioners indicated interest in serving: Brian and Michael for community building; Shirley and Tina for pedestrian and bicycle safety; Missy, Naveen, and Sharon for parks/programming. The commission asked staff to follow up on membership logistics and scheduling.

The motion was approved by voice vote with no roll-call tally recorded. The commission will assign committee membership and staff will contact volunteers about next steps.
