Isla Vista board honors community leader Arthur Kennedy with Resolution 26-8

The Isla Vista Community Services District adopted Resolution 26-8 honoring the life and civic service of Arthur Kennedy, who the resolution and several speakers said passed away on Jan. 24 at age 91.
The resolution recited Kennedy's community roles: arriving in the 1960s, founding or serving on the IV Vista Youth Projects and the Isla Vista Food Co-op, serving on the Isla Vista Recreation and Parks District board and the Isla Vista Community Development Corporation, and providing affordable housing by renting rooms in a duplex. A director read the resolution's whereas clauses that highlighted Kennedy's decades of volunteerism and community support.
Community members, including longtime friend Jeffrey Walsh, addressed the board with personal memories. "Arthur Kennedy was a friend of mine for almost 50 years," Walsh said, and described Kennedy as a quiet, service-driven presence who preferred not to seek recognition. Other board members and community representatives echoed those remarks. A director moved and seconded the resolution and the motion passed by voice vote.
The resolution directs the district to honor Kennedy's memory and to continue community-service work consistent with his legacy.
