The City Council on Feb. 24 appointed Vamsi Velapuga to the East Palo Alto Sanitary District (EPASD) Advisory Committee to fill an unexpired Menlo Park seat.
Deputy City Clerk Sarah Sandoval said two applications were received following a January recruitment period. Applicant Jagan Subaya spoke during public comment, described local roots and water-board experience as a board member of the O'Connor Cooperative Water Company, and urged the council to consider his qualifications.
Council discussion included brief feedback on applicants and a public comment about an absent applicant who had submitted a note explaining a childcare conflict. Councilmember Drew Combs nominated Vamsi Velapuga; Councilmembers Cecilia Taylor, Jeff Schmidt and Vice Mayor Jennifer Wise expressed support. The City Clerk announced the appointment and staff will coordinate next steps with East Palo Alto officials.
The appointment fills a six-member advisory body seat that advises the East Palo Alto Sanitary District on operations, budgets and capital planning.
