Jennifer Daddio, director of the Chappaqua Library, presented the library board's proposed 2026–27 levy and operating budget during the Chappaqua BOE meeting May 6.
"Our proposed tax levy for next year is $3,836,142," Daddio said, adding that the amount is approximately $127,000 above last year and represents the maximum allowable increase under the state formula. She described revenue lines — fines, lost‑item fees, modest local and state aid and investment income — as largely flat while noting a >15% increase in medical‑benefits costs, which is the primary driver of the library's expenditure growth.
Daddio said the library's total operating budget would be $3,899,492 and explained that materials spending is down as the library purchases fewer CDs and DVDs. She also explained the library's capital needs, noting an aging building and vendor estimates that air handlers could cost about $250,000–$300,000 each; the library maintains a fund balance and a capital reserve that the board may use for future projects.
She provided property‑tax impact examples: about $0.09 per $1,000 for New Castle residents and $0.79 per $1,000 for Mount Pleasant residents. The library's budget vote and the library board election will occur at the same time and place as the school district vote on May 19.
