The Chappaqua Central School District presented a proposed $150,125,516 budget for 2026–27, a budget‑to‑budget increase of 3.97% with a proposed tax levy increase of 2.99, district finance staff said during the May 6 board meeting.
"The 2627 budget is a $150,125,516," Josh, the district business office presenter, told the board during the budget hearing. He said the levy increase is below the district's tax‑cap limit of 3.92% and that the budget relies in part on higher state aid and maximized BOCES reimbursements pending the state budget.
The presentation cited rising debt service that the district plans to offset with capital transfers and noted some expenditure shifts including increased debt‑service and BOCES costs and reduced technology and operations lines. Officials also described a contingency budget (1.39% increase) that would take effect if voters reject the proposed budget; under New York law the board may adopt a contingency budget or resubmit a budget to voters.
District staff provided estimated local tax impacts: in the town composing part of the district, Newcastle was shown at an estimated 2.06% year‑over‑year school tax increase and Mount Pleasant at an estimated 1.19% increase. The presentation directed residents to the district website for a tax‑impact calculator.
The board opened and closed the formal budget hearing with no public comments. The school budget vote and election will be held Tuesday, May 19, from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. at the Horace Greeley gym, the district stated.
