Milford students, artists recognized as board highlights arts, band centennial

Students from Smith Elementary presented the school’s Eagle Leadership League at the Milford Exempted Village Board of Education meeting on Feb. 19, describing groups that lead dismissal, peer supports and community service.
"Our Eagle Leadership League is for students in grades 3 through 5 who wanna step up, help others, and make our school the best camp it can be," said student presenter Nick Suma, who introduced the SOAR Squad, Flight Force and Eagle Experts and described their roles helping younger students, leading assemblies and organizing donation drives.
The board also recognized featured student artists from Boyd E. Smith whose artworks were displayed in the meeting room. The presenter highlighted district arts programming and upcoming events, including the spring production "Water for Elephants" and a band centennial performance March 8 at Cincinnati Music Hall supported by the Milford Schools Foundation and Milford Band Boosters.
Board members praised the student presenters and noted community reactions: one neighbor called to say the student-made thank-you cards delivered to the neighborhood "meant so much." The board encouraged continued community engagement and said student leadership and arts programming are central to the district’s community identity.
The presentation concluded with applause and informal Q&A with trustees. There were no formal actions tied specifically to the presentations.
