The Montclair City Council approved an agreement permitting RTI International to use the Montclair Transit Center parking lot as a site for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES).
Council members asked staff whether the city had already leased the lot to other groups and how the survey would operate. City staff told the council that RTI will pay the city $2,500 for short‑term use of the site from July 21 through October 2025, that the survey’s organizers will provide transportation and childcare for invited participants, and that results are confidential and can be sent to a participant’s physician if requested.
Staff said San Bernardino County was one of 20 counties nationwide selected this year to host NHANES; a random sample of about 500 households will be invited, and the program conducts detailed health testing used historically to inform national public‑health baselines.
Council asked whether letters to selected households had already been mailed; staff said they would check the schedule. Staff also confirmed that a local group called Set Free, which previously used the lot for programming, has been notified and agreed to the short‑term RTI use.
Council approved the consent calendar, which included the RTI agreement (Agreement No. 25‑47) authorizing use of the transit‑center parking lot for the NHANES mobile operations.
