Animal control reports August intakes, mobile clinic results; city sets Oct. 27 community resource fair

Animal control staff reported August service figures and recent outreach results. For the month the department received 60 service requests, processed 46 intakes, returned 11 animals to their owners, completed 16 adoptions, and sent nine animals to rescue. Staff said 35 animals visited the vet, 11 were found dead on arrival, two died in care and one was euthanized. The department issued 11 licenses and eight citations in the month.
Staff highlighted an Animal Action League mobile clinic that provided low‑cost vaccinations and spay/neuter services at the city’s Hosienda facility; the clinic spayed or neutered 34 pets. Staff announced the next mobile clinic will be held Oct. 16. The presenter recommended residents contact animal control if they have ongoing issues such as chronic barking; staff said officers can attempt nighttime responses or work with neighbors to pinpoint the source.
Separately, commissioners announced a Desert Hot Springs Community Resource Fair scheduled for Oct. 27 at the recreation center from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Commissioners invited local agencies to participate and asked staff to publicize the event.
