Code compliance staff reported that a long‑running property on Third Street — first opened as a case in 2017 — had deteriorated to the point of persistent public‑safety hazard, prompting the city to obtain an abatement warrant and demolish all structures on the parcel.
According to the report, the property had successive owners, repeated failures to submit rehabilitation or demolition permits, unauthorized occupancy, visible fires and threats to children at a nearby daycare. The department said it pursued citations and administrative hearings from 2023 through 2025 and ultimately executed an abatement warrant to remove unsafe structures.
The code‑compliance report listed August activity citywide: 141 service requests, 144 notices of violation, 473 inspections, 42 citations amounting to $36,700 in fines and 110 newly opened cases. The department highlighted a successful citation of an illegal short‑term vacation rental after officers documented occupancy beyond allowable limits.
Compliance officers credited coordinated outreach and property‑owner contacts for resolving large dumping sites on Flora and Joseph Way and noted their Community Response Team continues to address illegal dumping, trespass and nuisance conditions. Commissioners thanked staff for the enforcement work and praised quick cleanup following recent reports to Council.
