District administrators and DECA adviser Mr. Bowman introduced the board to the DECA program’s growth and competitive structure on March 23. Mr. Bowman described how membership, events, and testing work, and explained that state rules mean participation is tied to business‑education coursework except for arrangements made for incoming ninth graders who took middle‑school business.
Three Starpoint High School students — Nina Briggs, Marley Doran and Maya Dor — presented an integrated marketing campaign for a brand they showcased as part of a DECA project. The students outlined product positioning, target markets (men concerned with mental‑health benefits, pet owners, and travelers), competitive benchmarks (White Fox Boutique and Essentials), campaign objectives (including a 15% increase in male popularity), and a 45‑day social‑media and promotions schedule. They also included cost estimates and performance metrics tied to brand equity, revenue increases, reduced cart abandonment and higher net‑promoter scores.
Mr. Bowman said DECA prepares students for professional interactions by combining a testing component with an in‑person role‑play event and that prepared events have enabled Starpoint students to advance to state competitions. Board members praised the students’ professionalism and asked whether presentations could be used as outreach or internship material; Mr. Bowman said that has happened in other districts and that the district will explore options after spring break.
No formal policy or funding decisions were made during the presentation.
