San Dimas staff preview storm readiness, paving, water-main work and holiday events

City management and department directors updated the council on a set of near-term public-works and community events.
City manager Brad warned of multi-day rain beginning Friday and described public-works preparations: clearing channels, removing debris, and patrolling the city. He reminded residents that sandbags are available at the city yard (301 South Walnut Avenue) and that residents should bring shovels and be prepared to fill their own bags.
Public-works paving is scheduled to begin next week on Fifth Street and nearby blocks, with grinding and paving planned during the week of Nov. 24 on sections of Glacia and Gladstone; schedules are subject to change depending on weather. Golden State Water Company is undertaking a major water-line replacement on San Dimas Avenue and San Dimas Canyon Road with work anticipated through early December; a separate water-main replacement is underway on Terrebonne Avenue north of White Bluff Drive.
Parks and Recreation Director Scott Wasserman previewed the Holiday Extravaganza on Bonita Avenue (Dec. 6, 3–9 p.m.) including a parade, pre-event activities with Mrs. Claus, 12 tons of snow for play, a beer garden, and a 6 p.m. tree-lighting ceremony. He also reminded residents that house-decorating contest registration closes Dec. 8 and judging will occur Dec. 9–11.
Councilmembers also noted transit-related improvements: a conversion of one tennis court at the Sportsplex into four dedicated pickleball courts is scheduled to begin Dec. 4 and complete by Jan. 5 (weather permitting). Members discussed Metro’s new station-activation team and the need to keep the San Dimas station connected to community events.
