San Dimas council honors local champions and previews summer events including expanded drone show

At its March 24 meeting the San Dimas City Council presented proclamations and recognized several community groups and achievements, and staff and commissioners summarized upcoming community events.

Mayor Emmett G. Badar read proclamations honoring the Damien High School varsity ice hockey team for winning the 2026 Anaheim Ducks High School Hockey League Division 3 Commissioners' Cup and the GFWC Laverne San Dimas Women's Club for volunteer service. Coaches and club leaders accepted certificates and thanked the council. A representative for State Senator Susan Rubio (Elena Robles) attended and delivered commendations on the senator's behalf.

Library staff highlighted an April 18 bilingual family concert for El Deda de los Nif1os and reminded residents that, while the San Dimas library is closed for renovation, patrons can use the Laverne branch or LA County Library digital resources and borrow a Parks Pass for free day-use entry to participating state parks.

Doran Barnes of the Planning Commission previewed the July 3 San Dimas 2026 celebration and said the committee has increased the planned drone show from 250 to 350 drones and is aiming for 400; the event will also feature a farmers' market, car displays and a student art contest. Parks and recreation staff announced the city's new pickleball courts, the April 25 recreation-center open house and Earth Day/Arbor Day activities, and a weekly summer concert series beginning June 10.
