La Habra Heights council makes fire chief role full-time and appoints Edward Martin

The La Habra Heights City Council voted to reclassify the city—ire-chief position from part-time to full-time and to appoint Edward Martin as fire chief and Greg Terrell as deputy chief.
Council members moved and seconded the measure at the Sept. 8 meeting and recorded unanimous votes in favor. After the vote the council invited Chief Martin and his family forward for a public acknowledgment and photos.
Chief Martin thanked the council for its support and praised the department nd its volunteers. "I'm so grateful to have a partner that has the same vision," he said, and described the department as "wrought in tradition and integrity and pride," pledging to work toward an organization capable of handling most incidents within the city.
Martin told the council the department—xpanded during recent recruiting efforts from 27 firefighters to 66, with 18 on a reserve bench and additional trainees expected to graduate in December. He also said the department has strengthened mutual-aid relationships and recently trained with the Downey Fire Department.
The appointment follows a staff recommendation that included reclassifying the chief role to ensure dedicated leadership and adjusting the deputy chief position to part-time concurrent with the change. Councilmembers applauded Martin and welcomed community participation in upcoming public events where residents will be able to tour the new engine and meet firefighters.
The council adjourned that item after the formal vote and a brief presentation by Chief Martin.
