Residents press council for answers on city credit-card investigation; council asks for report within two weeks

Council discussion later in the meeting reflected the pressure from the public. One council member reported meeting with the city manager and said the administration expects the investigation to be concluded "within approximately 2 weeks," and asked that a written report be returned to the council at that time.
City officials did not present a detailed accounting of the investigation during the meeting; the city manager acknowledged the public's concerns and the constraints of the Brown Act on in-meeting discussion of non-agenda items. The manager also said the city will begin posting brief responses to public comments online starting in April to improve transparency about non-agenda matters.
The council did not vote on or formally direct a change to investigative authority during the meeting; residents said they will press for more details when the report is delivered.
