The South Lake Tahoe City Council formally recognized City Manager Joe Irvin with a ceremonial key and public remarks thanking him for six years of service. Council members and residents credited Irvin with steering the city through multiple crises, including the COVID‑19 pandemic, the Caldor fire evacuations and an unusually heavy winter.
Council members praised Irvin’s leadership, and residents who spoke during public comment echoed that appreciation. Irvin told the council and community: "Serving as South Lake Tahoe city manager has been the highest professional highlight of my career." He thanked staff and the community and said he looked forward to his next position and visiting the region.
The presentation was followed by a round of public acknowledgements from civic groups, including the Southshore Transit Management Association, which highlighted transit partnerships developed during Irvin’s tenure. Council members used the occasion to note ongoing work the city must complete as it transitions to new leadership.
